VOLUNTEER WORK

This is a non-governmental voluntary organisation, providing the poor with cheap or free medical care, health advice and educational support for the poorest children. The IIMC was conceived by Dr.Sujit Kumar Brahmochary. He obtained his medical degree in Calcutta and specialised in paediatrics in Belgium with the help of a scholarship from Belgium Red Cross. After working with Mother Teresa as a medical in-charge for two years, he decided that he wished to commit his life to helping the poor, and started a rural community health and education project in 1989 in a poor rural area at Sonarpur, just south of Calcutta.
There are now more than 60 Indian workers, including 6 doctors and a growing number of teachers in IIMC schools. The financial help currently comes from Belgium, Italy, Spain, Japan, Switzerland, UK, local Rotary Clubs and other European Countries.
